Chili con Carne
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 clove garlic, chopped
2 pounds ground beef
1 1/4 cups canned tomatoes
3-4 cups canned kidney beans
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 bay leaf
1/4 cup red wine (optional)
2 teaspoons - 2 Tablespoons chili powder
Saute onion and garlic.
Add ground beef.
Stir and saute until the meat is well done.
Add other ingredients.
Cover and simmer about 1 hour or longer.
Best if made one day ahead.
Serve with tortilla chips or crackers.
Garnish with chopped onions and/or chredded cheese.
